BMW 2 Series vs. 3 Series: What’s the Difference?

One special point you must be sure to consider is the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. To date, the 2 Series has only been available as a coupe. The Gran Coupe, though, is a four door version that means plenty of rear seat space that may be important to you. It’s a bit sportier than the other models, and it offers a more aerodynamic look.

If you’re looking for a bit more luxury, though, you may want to upgrade to the 3 Series. Performance

Should you select the BMW 2 Series, you’ll choose from a coupe or a convertible and two different trim levels. The 230i and the M240i trim series are both available. The 230i includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Expect 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Select the M240i if you want slightly more power. You’ll get a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with this model that includes 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both feature an eight-speed automatic transmission or you can opt for a six-speed manual.

The 3 Series offers you even more power. Choose from two trim levels here, too: the 330i and the M340i. The 330i means a turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The upsell means more power thanks to a six-cylinder, 382 horsepower engine that can put out 369 lb-ft of torque. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional on both trim levels.

Handling

The 2 Series offers you the sporty drive you’re looking for. You’ll be comfortable throughout, but you’ll certainly feel like you’re in a vehicle that was made for sport. Comfort, though, reigns supreme with the 3 Series. You get plenty of sharp handling aspects, but the ride quality is stunning.
