New BMW M3 Touring: Coming Soon

After a two-year wait, the new BMW M3 Touring will finally be unveiled this summer. The 2023 M3 Touring is a unique sports car with many novel features, including an exterior that looks more like a luxury station wagon; the aesthetics, however, make it obvious that it is a BMW. Referred to as the “Bielefeld,” the BMW M3 Touring is one of the most creative innovations to come from the Bavarian manufacturer.

Because the Touring has been heavily camouflaged in the spy photos, many exterior details are not easily revealed. But it is visible that this iconic 2023 M3 does come with wide axles, large front air intakes, and four exhaust tailpipes. Even though the M3 Touring was designed for everyday use, it still offers the classic BMW racing-oriented performance.

The M3 Touring Wagon has features similar to the 3 Series but with several high-performance items added, including a lowered suspension, more aggressive rear and front fascias, and a sporty exhaust system sticking out the back. The luxury wagon has five doors and a highly variable luggage compartment.

Like the flagship M3 Competition xDrive, the 2023 M3 Touring will feature the same powertrain. As a result, the M3 Touring will be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six generating 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be exclusively interlinked to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission that will function as an all-wheel drive.  At the moment, BMW has hinted that there will be no other variant of the M3 Touring so do not keep your hopes high for a manual rear-wheel model.

Further improvements include a set of ceramic brakes, upgraded suspension and chassis, and placement of a bespoke V-shaped strut beneath the vehicle. Other features of the Touring sports wagon will include the well-known M aero bits that will include a huge rear diffuser, flared wheel arches, and quad exhaust pipes.

BMW has not released much information about the interior, but one recent update announced is that the interior will come with the latest iDrive 8 system, which will come with a curved and large touchscreen display. The right LCD will measure 14.9 inches, whereas the left LCD will measure 12.3 inches. As far as seating is concerned, it will seat four people and will have ample cargo space, if the rear seats can be folded.

BMW is hoping that the Competition xDrive is going to be a top seller and, hence, it will come with all the popular gear and razzmatazz. The manufacturer is going to be providing more updates as the launch date gets closer.

With BMW moving rapidly towards electrification of its luxury vehicles, it is most likely that the BMW Touring will be the first and last to be powered by a combustion engine. If you have always wanted a traditional gas-powered BMW, this will be your last chance.

Unlike its competitors Audi and Mercedes, the BMW M3 Touring is slightly smaller but has similar performance. It is expected to cost less than $100K. BMW will be releasing more details about the M3 Touring over the next few months.
