Ready for something different? BMW is constantly figuring out how to innovate and provide drivers with an excellent combination of what they need as well as what they want. Fuel economy standards are rising, which means many car makers need to figure out how to stay on par. Especially with a consumer base that is always on the hunt for the next best SUV or crossover. Some, such as BMW, are looking to the future and utilizing electricity as a means of power rather than straight gasoline. The results are cars such as the new BMW X5 plug-in.
The BMW X5 xDrive40e looks great – as you would expect from BMW creating a luxury crossover. Dealerships like the Braman BMW dealer in Jupiter are expecting to see arrivals sometime in the fall of this year, so you may want to keep an eye out. It also uses a smart combination of hybrid technology – so you can use pure electricity when in city driving or other short trips, and 55 mpg otherwise. The X5 xDrive40e has a 2.0-liter twin-turbo engine combined with electric motor that provides an output of 308 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic, and if you’re going from 0-60, it will only take 6.5 seconds.
Thus far, there isn’t much in the way of competition for the new BMW X5 plug-in. In fact, right now it’s the only plug-in crossover along with the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. Even so, it costs far, far less (the X5 starts at $56,200) and when you compare the specs, the new BMW X5 plug-in is definitely worth it. It won’t even be until the third quarter of 2015 that Tesla, the one looming electric giant, will finally start to deliver its all-electric Model X crossover.
Keep your eyes open and an ear to the ground so you can get the first model that Braman BMW carries when the X5 xDrive90e finally comes to town!
