BMW Art Car Collection in Miami

The super hot BMW events for 2014 are not over yet.  If you are in South Florida, don’t miss the 2014 Art Basel international fair held in Miami Beach, where two stellar and exemplary models from the BMW Art Car Collection will be on display from Wednesday, December 4, through Sunday, December 7.  The car customization of these vehicles is extraordinary and you need to see them first-hand to truly appreciate their fine details.  The BMW 320 will be in the Botanical Garden next to the fair, while the BMW M3 will be located in the Collectors Lounge in the Convention Center.

Art Basel and BMW are joining forces to give emerging artists the support they deserve with this new global initiative.  The BMW 320, designed by Roy Lichtenstein, is the third car in the BMW Art Car Collection.  His design for this luxury vehicle came from reflections of his famous comic strip.  Michael JagamaraNelson, the Australian artist, gave his BMW M3 automobile customization the look of nature from an aerial view.  Look closely: are there kangaroos and emus hidden within the abstract shapes?  Both exhibited cars are beautiful masterpieces, as well as being exquisite examples of BMW history.

What’s Under The Hood?

The BMW 320 offers a top speed of 180mph and 300 bhp power output with a four-cylinder in-line engine, four valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, and a 1999 cm³ displacement.  The storied past of this car reveals its previous exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the 24-hour Le Mans race in 1977, where it had the number 50 on it, driven by Hervé Poulain to a ninth place overall rating, finishing first in its class.

The M3 can reach a speed of 174 mph, also with 300 bhp power output, a four-cylinder in-line engine with four values per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, and a displacement of 2332 cm³.  This car also has a storied past as the car that Tony Longhurst won the Australian AMSCAR Championship with in 1987.  Peter Brock drove the car several times after that when the car had a home with the Mobil 1 1988 racing team.
