The 2019 BMW M2 Competition literally blows away the competition. It proved its mettle at Circuito Ascari, the famed 3.4 mile racetrack in Spain that requires intense concentration to navigate – and a vehicle that can handle the twisting, turning, rugged terrain. The M2 performed flawlessly. Could this be the best BMW M car ever made?
The Best BMW M Car Ever Made
The BMW M2 Competition boasts the robust S55 twin turbo inline-six that churns out 405 horses and 406 lb-ft of torque. The engine is the same as that featured in the M4, but it’s been dialed down just a little. This doesn’t create significant (or even noticeable) reduction in power. And it’s a big boost from the previous M2’s 365 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
The Bimmer also features BMW’s Active M rear differential: this distributes torque evenly across the rear axle in all corners – the sharper and wider, the better. It works in concert with the new M Dynamic mode. Here, the stability control intervention is less intrusive but it’s there if you need it. Rest assured though: this model powers out of corners better than any of its predecessors.
M2 Competition: Effortless Precision
The six-speed manual transmission shifts effortlessly and precisely through the gears. You can also opt for a quick shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Either way: it’s an amazing drive.
Inside, you’ll feel like you’re driving the Ascari even if you’re going to the grocery store! The new steering wheel features two programmable buttons so you can toggle through diving modes. There are new mirrors, black kidney grilles and badges, and a redesigned front and back bumper that make the new iteration a completely different beast than previous M2s.
The M2 delivers a stellar driving experience, and the M2 Competition takes it to new levels. If not the best BMW M car, it is certainly neck-and-neck with its luxurious brothers.
