BMW isn’t afraid of technology in the least. In fact, BMW heartily embraces technology and all that it can do for their cars and for their customers. In the past they’ve installed everything from the highest quality speakers to touchscreen consoles for the utmost control of your car. You can get directions, find your favorite song, call home, and do much, much more than ever before all while within your car.
BMW iDrive With Gesture Control on the 7 Series
BMW’s iDrive has been a part of their vehicle line for a long time, but now it’s going to get an overhaul at the same time that the 2016 BMW 7 Series becomes available. How could they have possibly made the iDrive any better? It’s BMW – that’s what they do.
Rather than just have actual buttons and touchscreen capabilities, the new iDrive infotainment system will also include gesture control. Gesture control is newest to the game of car technology, and if you’re thinking of today’s movies (picture Tony Stark in his lab, gesturing at his holographics to move them around), then you’ve got the right idea. A 3D sensor in the device will detect specific motions that have been predefined. These are going to be the most common motions, such as turning up volume, or answering a phone call. However, you can use these motions to set up different iDrive or navigation functions as well. Not sure if gesture control will be available for certain screens? Don’t worry – the iDrive will let you know via an icon on the screen that indicates whether or not gesture control can be used.
Gesture control is still early tech for BMW and no doubt they’re looking to add even more possibilities for a wholly hands-free experience. Until then, keep an eye out for the 2016 BMW 7 Series for sale in South Florida – once it’s out there, you can have a great time playing with the new tech.
