BMW has been busy, and just a few weeks ago, the 2023 third-generation BMW X1, the X1 30e, and the completely new iX1, an all-electric SUV, made a splash with their hot web debut. While the iX1 is only available in Europe at the moment, it will likely hit US roads later in 2023.

A Quick Look at the X1 x Drive 28i

At the moment, the xDrive 28i is the only model you can get in the United States. It is a small subcompact that was designed to compete against the likes of Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and Lexus UX. This, though, is a totally redesigned model that has adopted a more stable exterior, extra refinements in the interior, and an updated powertrain. The hottest new features include:

  • Modified exterior design
  • Slightly wider and taller body with an elongated wheelbase
  • All-wheel drive as standard
  • 7-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • Revised interior design with the new BMW Curved Display
  • Addition of the Driving Assistant Professional

Maybe the most interesting feature of this one is the fact that it’s offered in at least a dozen exterior colors. While most – Cape York Green, Space Silver, and Blue Bay Lagoon – have been around for decades, there are two brand new colors to consider – Frozen Pure Grey and Utah Orange. A metallic finish is also available.

It runs on a 4-cylinder 2-liter engine that generates 204 hp. With its 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the x1 xDrive can go from 0-60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. Many options have now become standard in this model including the Curved Display which comprises the central infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster that has been combined into one large unit. The infotainment system also has an enhanced voice-activated personal assistant. Both android auto and Apple Carplay are standard.

The 2023 BMW X1 will cost around $39,595.

The X1 30e and the iX1

Even though the X1, the X1 30e, and iX1 have distinct powertrains, all the models are similar with only a few minor subtle differences. The iX1 is a fully electric SUV that has a range of 438 kilometers whereas the X1 is a 30e plug-in hybrid with a range of 89 kilometers.

The BMW X1 x Drive 30e has a 3-cylinder turbocharged gas engine and an electric motor, which can deliver a combined hp of 326 HP. When it arrives in the US, it will only be available in one trim.

The iX1 offers zero emissions, and it looks just slightly different from the X1. It has a modified front end, thanks to the fact that it’s an EV. You might notice blue accents across the course of the car, but on the whole, it matches the overall design of the X1.
